Gaining national recognition in one of the most prestigious awards is no easy feat, but Haus12 managed to do just that at the 2020 Designer Awards. Their contemporary design based on the aesthetic of a Dutch bungalow flawlessly complimented the rural Northumberland landscape to secure them the win of Kitchen Design of the Year (Under £30k).
Owner of Haus12, John McNeil, has worked in kitchen design for 28 years and for him, the challenging brief is what set this kitchen apart from others in his mind. “The choice of materials was key in bringing together all aspects of design along with the geographical location of the property.” The award-winning kitchen featured two islands, an appliance wall and a concealed double pantry. A variety of ‘hidden in plain view’ features makes the showpiece double island made from natural quartzite all the more spectacular.
John believes they “set their own service and design bar high”, something their customers now expect of them also. Having full confidence from your client can make all the difference when it comes to trying new concepts. A unique and challenging kitchen can inspire creativity, resulting in an exceptional kitchen that beautifully caters to your needs. Haus12 undoubtably strive for perfection, whether they’re working with new technology, trialling a new kitchen style, or trying to make something as sustainable as possible.
Imagination is something that is vital if you’re planning on designing something spectacular, and Haus12 like to start that journey with their clients. Thinking about your space in a different way opens up new possibilities, no matter how small your budget. From storage solutions to adding in eco-friendly touches, “it’s so satisfying to be able to open their eyes to the possibilities and opportunities they might be missing”.
Winning the award during such a turbulent time for the industry has boosted the morale of everyone at Haus12 as it has proven that even a small, family-run company based in the North East can stand its own against some worthy competitors. The team here at Haus12 look forward for what’s to come in the industry and will continue to push the boundaries when it comes to our designs.
